How You Can Help

I. Please make a tax-deductible donation to a fencing assistance fund!

Please consider making a donation to one of two funds established to help low-income families purchase fencing materials for their dogs.

One fencing assistance fund is managed by Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC), and an additional fund is managed by the Austin Community Foundation.  Your support will help make a real difference in the life of Austin's dogs and their families...and will help alleviate the dangers associated with chained confinement.

To donate to the Dog Fence Fund hosted by the Austin Community Foundation, there are two options:

1) Click here to donate on-line; or

2) Mail your check to the Austin Community Foundation, P.O. Box 5159, Austin, TX  78763.  Checks should be made out to the Austin Community Foundation, with "Dog Fence Fund" written in the memo line of the check.  Citizens may also contact the Austin Community Foundation for more information by calling 512-472-4483.

To donate to Town Lake Animal Center, mail your check to TLAC, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX  78703.  Checks should be made out to "Town Lake Animal Center," with "Dog Fence Fund" written in the memo line of the check.  Citizens may also contact TLAC for more information by calling 311.

II. Please help inform potential donors about the Dog Fence Fund.

Our donation flyer provides information on the Dog Fence Fund and how to make a tax-deductible donation to the Fund.  This information will be absolutely critical in the Fund's ability to help low-income citizens provide secure and humane fencing for their dogs.  Please click here to download the flyer:

III. Please help spread the news about the new anti-chaining law.

Our ordinance summary flyer provides a brief outline of ordinance requirements, and lets people know how they can apply for financial assistance to help purchase fencing materials.  The text is written in both English and Spanish.  Please click here to download the flyer:

NOTE:  Please use legal, people-friendly, and Earth-friendly methods to distribute the flyers.  In order to help as many dogs as possible, please help ensure the flyers get into people's hands, instead of ending up as litter on the ground.

Here are a few suggestions:

- Make as many copies of the flyers as you can.
- Ask local stores, businesses, organizations, churches, and neighborhood centers if they would display copies of the flyers on their counters, in their windows, or in their lobbies.
- Ask local organizations if they would help distribute the flyers at tabling sessions or community outreach events.
- Post copies of the flyer on public bulletin boards (please obtain permission from property owner if required).
- Post links to the flyers on your own website.
- If you know a neighbor with a chained or tethered dog and you feel comfortable approaching them, please ask them if they would like a flyer with information about the new law (i.e., the Chaining Ordinance Summary Flyer, linked above).

Please remember:  With flyer distribution, always be courteous, safe, and litter-free!

Thank you for your help with the flyer outreach campaign!
